If you have a growing business, are privately-held (whether self-funded or venture-backed) and don't have an in-house general counsel, read on - you've come to the right place.

Every company may not need a general counsel on the management team. But every company should have one reliable, business-minded lawyer who:

  • can work effectively with all functional areas of the company
  • understands the business inside-out
  • handles day-to-day transactions as well as strategic events
  • sets priorities and manages legal spending consistently with your strategy, and
  • helps ensure each function of the company is operating lawfully and efficiently.

Your company is no different. You should have a lawyer who works at the speed of your business, and gives you and your team straight answers in plain English.

When you work with this firm, you get one experienced attorney dedicated to helping you grow your business. Retaining the right individual lawyer is far more important than hiring any particular law firm.

I have advised and represented clients in connection with many business/legal issues, including:

  • contracts
  • corporate formation and governance
  • debt and private equity financing
  • commercial transactions
  • asset sales
  • strategic partnerships
  • financial and operational restructurings
  • employment issues
  • managing outside counsel and legal costs

One of my clients said he thinks of me as "a business person who happens to be a lawyer."  As your company's counsel, of course, I wear my lawyer hat proudly and take that responsibility very seriously. But I never give legal advice or spend a minute of billable time without keeping in mind the business priorities and realities.  Many lawyers make the same promise. Only the exceptional ones have a practical understanding of what that means.

If you've been getting by without such a lawyer and are still unconvinced, see the
5 reasons every company should have a Go-To Counsel® relationship, or read the posts under the "What Brings You?" tab.

For companies that would benefit from this service, a month-to-month flat fee arrangement for an appropriate amount of time usually works best.  There's no long-term commitment and we revisit the fee regularly to see that you are getting your money's worth and I'm earning a fair living wage.

For discrete legal matters and projects, I can work with you and your team on an hourly-fee or fixed-fee basis. Fee arrangements vary based on the nature and predictability of the work and legal issues, but I charge only a fair and very competitive price in all cases.

If my message here resonates with you, I would be pleased to hear from you and discuss how I may be able to help.

Thank you.
